NEW YORK : The historical event #BloggersGiveBack took place at the FIT Design Entrepreneurs Collaborative 520 8th Avenue Suite 1202, New York, NY 10018 from 6:30 PM to 9:30PM Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018. A highly curated and diverse group of 200 of New York City’s top influencers and bloggers, models, celebrities, modeling and PR agencies, media and brands with a combined global reach of well over 20 million, have come together to provide hundreds of pounds of quality clothing donations to Housing Works which is a New York City based nonprofit fighting the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness and in partnership with the media to redefine the terms “Blogger/ Influencer” as being someone who only works for their own benefit, to being someone who can affect positive change in society.

The celebrity infused subject matter expert panel discussion was led by paradigm shifting event coproducers Catherine Schuller, renowned diversity fashion event curator of Runway the Real Way, Sarah Hamel-Smith plus sized model and digital influencer at True Model Management and Urszula Makowska, actress, influencer and social media expert.

Panelists included Nev Schulman the host of MTV’s show Catfish, creative director Laura Perlongo, Khrystyna Kaz winner of America’s Next Top Model, Chrissy Monroe founder of Survive to Thrive Global and VH1’s show Love and Hip Hop, Kahlil Martin NYC socialite and CEO of D17Productions Management Corp, Kristen Luong designer of sustainable fashion line KROMAGNON and Scarlett Hao the first Chinese curvy fashion influencer. Participants discussed the importance of diversity, sustainable fashion practices as well as ways to awaken the social responsibility component in influencer marketing/ blogging.

“#BloggersGiveBack is a brilliant idea that I hope continues to grow and help young people understand the potential they have to make positive change.” – Nev Schulman, executive producer and host of MTV’s Catfish.

“A great night for a great initiative. Proud to be part of such an inspiring community of content creators taking the time to invent new ways to give back.” – Laura Perlongo, women’s advocate, host and creator of Facebook’s We Need to Talk. Bloggers Give Back was formulated through recognizing a need for applying a social responsibility, diversity and sustainability component to Blogging/ Influencer Marketing. “With the implosion of social media we have shifted from a consumption based to an interactive based media paradigm. For the first time in history people are able to tell their own stories to mass audiences. The event has awakened bloggers and influencers to their power to utilize their voices to affect positive social change,” says Sarah Hamel-Smith.

Bloggers have a reputation in society as being selfish and narcissistic and this simply isn’t the truth. Participants gathered together to change the conversation. “Today, we are here to thank those who have supported us from the beginning and to give back to the community we are a part of, but also to do make a positive change with our voices utilizing social media to assist those in need. We have the voices. We have the power. We have the influence. We have the social media presence. Let’s do something positive together,” shares actress, blogger and influencer Urszula Makowska. “In the spirit of gratitude and sharing, we have come together to create an uplifting and joyous event to deliver a strong message about unity and caring,” Catherine Schuller.

UserTesting Highlights How Inflation Is Squeezing Indian Consumers, 75 Percent Join The Gig Economy To Meet Increased Cost Of Living

Inflation Is Squeezing Indian Consumers
  • On an average, 3 out of 5 Indians are witnessing the highest impact of inflation on entertainment and petrol expenditures
  • In order to save money, 65 percent of Indians are now buying their necessary products from generic brands
  • View consumer responses to the impact of inflation

India, July 13, 2022: UserTesting (NYSE: USER), a leader in video-based human insight, conducted a survey to understand the effects of the rising inflation on Indians’ spending habits and personal finances. As per the survey findings, over 95 percent of Indians reported that growing inflation is directly impacting their daily and monthly expenditure.

A host of cost pressures such as rising commodity prices, global supply disruptions, and more has been translated to end consumers in the form of elevated prices for goods and services across the board. Therefore, to meet basic needs, Indians are cutting back on their everyday expenses to meet their basic needs. About 60 percent of Indian respondents indicated that they are cutting back on entertainment and leisure activities such as movies, eating out, staycations, etc. Unsurprisingly, the respondents also mentioned minimizing personal car travel and opting for public transport to reduce their expenditure on petrol.

Mounting prices of essential commodities

Indians are facing the brunt of inflation majorly on petrol prices, as mentioned by 100 percent of the respondents during the survey. With essential grocery items such as bread witnessing a sharp rise in prices, 90 percent of the respondents have reported that it is becoming a burden to keep up with the inflation storm. Adding to the trouble, some respondents mentioned not having received any salary appraisals in the past year, leading to a reduction in personal savings for many.

Gig economy takes center stage amidst rising inflation

As inflation heats up, former motivations for side hustles, such as paying off debt and saving, have been replaced by a more pressing need: making ends meet. According to the survey, 75 percent of Indian respondents revealed that they are resorting to secondary sources of income to keep up with the increased cost of living. The popular options that were mentioned included freelancing and trading among other side gigs.

Indians replace their go-to shops: from big brands to local brands

Interestingly, the survey found that on average, 65 percent of Indians are buying from generic/local brands instead of name brands so as to save money. Stating that most generic brands are now offering the same quality of a product at a cheaper price, more than half of the Indians have shifted their focus on local brands, especially for purchases such as clothes and grocery items that are now being bought from local kirana shops.
