MMJ Labs, which was founded in 2006 by Dr. Amy Baxter is now gaining popularity in the healthcare sector because of its innovatiove product Buzzy. Dr. Baxter invented the product, got $1M in grant funding and ultimately started manufacturing of pain relieving products.

According to Dr. Baxter, pain is of the main reasons why universal vaccination is still eluding. But she seeks to change the Status quo by innovating in the hitherto superficially touched  area of naturally relieving pain in modern day medical science. Her product Buzzy is a revolution in a way as it does not involve using analgesics. According to one estimate Buzzy can reduc

Buzzy is a reusable breakthrough personal pain device that provides natural pain relief. Gate control is the basis for Buzzy, physiologically overwhelming the body’s pain nerves with benign cold (ice wings) and vibration (Buzzy’s body). It is similar to how you get relief when you put your burnt finger under running cold water for some time and feel relief.  Buzzy significantly reduces phlebotomy(the surgical opening or puncture of a vein in order to withdraw blood, to introduce a fluid, or when letting blood) pain both in adults and in children.

The pain of needle has forever precluded children from getting properly vaccinated and one can see the morbid fear in their eyes when they see an injection. The problem becomes more serious in case of developing countries where there is already a tangible shortage of vaccination facilities and of the remaining children who go for vaccination, most of them don’t return in order to get boosters. Innovative ideas in such untouched domains can also help in making this world a better place.
