Ever thought of controlling your devices via mobile apps, facebook or twitter? Goa based Startup Inventrom has come up with a device Netplug which helps you control your devices via apps and via social media platforms such as facebook and twitter. The device uses IOT or Internet of Things as an enabler and helps you remotely control devices through your apps.

IOT is the network of physical objects or “things” embedded with electronics, software, sensors, and network connectivity allowing these “things” to collect and share data among themselves. Netplug can help you switch LED lights on and off and also change the color based on you social media posts and mood as has been used by Daud electrical, which is a Panji based company. The extent of application of IOT devices is not limited to home appliances but can be tweaked and applied to a large number of areas. For example, it can be used in environmental monitoring. Specifically, water quality, atmospheric or soil conditions. It can also be used in infrastructure management, energy management and medical and healthcare systems.

Founded in 2012 by Pranav Pai Vernekar and Vinayak Joshi, currently, the focus of this Startup is on R&D and design with special attention given to user friendliness. Apart from working on their products, they have been engaged in training students and professionals across the globe. Essentially a B2B product, Netplug has gathered attention of many manufacturers of electrical and electronic devices like Mukunda Foods and SS electricals.

Apart from getting an opportunity to showcase their design at the India US Startup Konnect in the Silicon Valley in September, this Startup has won several awards . Notable ones are India Internet of things 2014 award and the award at Digital India Week, organized by the Government of India among others.

Though many observers still raise concerns over privacy, autonomy and control as far as the security issues with IOT is concerned, the future of IOT is definitely bright, especially with the digital revolution we are witnessing.
