Ireland-based Content analytics Startup NewsWhip raised $6.4 in funding from Associated Press and Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun to fund team expansion and develop new technologies.

NewsWhip tracks trending stories and themes and provides that data to publishers and brands so that they can build their editorial strategy. Founded by Paul Quigley and Andrew Mullaney in 2012 , this is the largest funding raised by the firm.

NewsWhip currently employs 50 people and offers three product lines.

Analytics: It is a database of stories published since January 2014, tracked against major social networks for competitive analysis of any publisher or any brand.

Spike: It helps you discover fastest-spreading stories in real-time i.e. stories that might go viral.

API: Machine-readable feeds of the world’s biggest and fastest social publishing database.

After this round of investment, there will be some changes in the board as well with founder of Tribal Ventures, Conor Stanley joining it. Apart from adding new products, this round of funding will be used to hire more people. Initially in Dublin and then in New York.

Existing investors like Enterprise Ireland, Matter VC, Social Starts, and AIB Seed Capital Fund also participated in this round of funding.
