These Sectors Posted the Most Number of Remote Jobs during Coronavirus Pandemic

This list is based on an analysis of over 54,000 companies and their remote freelance job posting histories in the FlexJobs database between March 1, 2020 and April 30, 2020.

A remote freelance job refers to a freelance job that can be done either fully or partially from home.

According to FlexJobs. an online job service for professionals seeking flexible work, the number of freelance jobs with remote options in the FlexJobs database increased by 24% in April 2020 over March 2020.

“Given the current situation, I am not surprised to see a really healthy amount of listings for freelance jobs that can be done remotely,” said Sara Sutton, Founder and CEO of FlexJobs. “Although the pandemic has driven overall unemployment numbers up dramatically, we can look at the last recession as an historical point of reference for potential impact on freelancers. During the last recession, remote freelance job listings actually increased even as in-office jobs were declining, due primarily to the fact that these types of jobs can provide more economical options for companies,” Sutton concluded.

Below are the top 10 companies, ordered from greatest to least, for the number of freelance job postings during March and April, as well as examples of recent job postings, active as of May 11, at the respective companies.

According to HR.com’s “State of Free Agent Nation & Contingent Workforce 2020” report, staffing and temp agencies are most likely to be sourced for acquiring contingent workers. This is reflected in FlexJobs’ data as well, with this list heavily composed of staffing agencies. The education industry is also well-represented.
